What Is the ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplantation System?

Traditional hair transplants require a strip of skin to be removed from the back of your head. It leaves a scar, and the chances of success are limited. With the ARTAS® system, many of the problems in traditional transplants are eliminated.

The ARTAS® system locates the healthiest hair follicles along the back and sides of your head. These are the hairs that are less sensitive to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that men produce as they age and that causes male pattern baldness.

After detecting the healthiest hairs, the ARTAS® system carefully extracts them with smaller incisions than other methods require. It inflicts less trauma to the scalp and hair follicles, it doesn't damage the surrounding hairs, and it allows for higher-quality grafts. You get a more natural-looking hairline.

Preparing for hair transplantation with the ARTAS® system is relatively easy. The system requires short donor hair to work (about 1 millimeter), so we recommend slowly transitioning to a shorter hairstyle. A series of shorter haircuts can make the change less noticeable to your friends and co-workers. MOST IMPORTANTLY do NOT completely shave your head prior to your procedure. As rule of thumb it would be wise to avoid a hair cut for a month prior to your procedure.
